Welcome to Natural Lens Photography!

What do I mean by Natural Lens? From my perspective as an artist, Natural refers to anything in the physical world, including humans and our creations. According to one definition, nature is the universe, with all its phenomena; it is reality, as distinguished from any effect of art. In this sense, natural is of or relating to nature or the universe.

My artist’s perspective on nature and natural differs from the more commonly held view that nature is the material world, especially as it surrounds humankind and exists independently of human activities, as the natural world exists without human beings or civilization. In this narrower view, humans and human-made objects are non-natural.

Together, these perspectives offer a richer artistic palette—allowing one to explore the tension, harmony, and dialogue between what is untouched and what is human-shaped, yet still rooted in the same universal reality.

I work as a visual artist and, over the years, I have found it useful to separate two main strands of photography in practice. One strand, visual photography, aims to welcome viewers with balanced composition, vibrant color, and skillful technique that offer immediate pleasure. Meanwhile, the conceptual strand nudges the mind by stacking symbols, metaphors, and open-ended narratives, inviting contemplation well after the artwork has been set aside. Although both currents can coexist in a single piece, each keeps its distinct purpose and whispers to the audience from its own angle.

My diverse interests make categorizing my photographs challenging, but I've organized the website to make navigating the varied subject matter and styles easier.

I hope you find something on the site that is visually appealing, thought-provoking, or prompts you to "see things differently."

Enjoy!
